Koggestraat 11/ Singel 29
Private house/ school
Year of construction: 1615
Style: around 1750 rebuild in Louis XV style
The Koggestraat was originally a canal. It was filled in 1860. The street is named after the ‘koggeschip’, a medieval ship that was used in trade with the Baltic region. So the house on number 11 was originally located on the corner of two canals. It is called ‘Koggehuis’. It is depicted on the cover of the 1993 book-week gift, written by W.F. Hermans. Currently violin school Silem is established in the building - maybe from time to time the neighbours wish the building was located isolated, as it was before the filling of the canal.
