Overtoom 121
Corner TweedeConstantijnHuygensstraat
Shop/ private house
Year of construction: appr. 1900
Overtoom street has the name of the location where ships were transferred from one water level to another. This spot was located at the end of Overtoomse Vaart, close to the water of the Schinkel. The Overtoomse Vaart was filled in 1904. Tram rails were constructed and Line 1 was opened. The Overtoom became a busy street with shops, houses and hectic traffic conditions. One could dream of the deafening silence of the prairie, when standing at the corner of Tweede Constantijn Huygensstraat.
