Five private houses, constructed end of 17th century

The Spiegelgracht is named after mayor Hendrick Spiegel. It was dug during the second phase of the construction of the Canal District. It is a short canal between the Prinsengracht and the Boerenwetering. The first houses on this canal were built after 1670. From the Spiegelgracht the Rijksmuseum can be seen. Until the end of the 19th century bulwark Amstelveen was located here, with a mill on it. The mill was demolished in favour of the Rijksmuseum, which was opened in 1885. The houses at number 24 - 34 saw a lot of demolition and construction.
