Oranje-Nassau Kazerne
Year of construction: 1810-1813
Architects: Abraham van der Hart and Picot de Moras

Constructed as Quartier Saint-Charles barracks, commissioned by Napoleon. Shortly after the building was finished, the French withdrew from the Netherlands and it was renamed Oranje-Nassau Kazerne. Around 1830 it was declared unfit for habitation and it became an animal house of Artis Zoo. In 1892 it became a residence for pigeons of the Military Carrier Pigeon Service. The building was renovated between 1987 and 1990 for council housing. In short: flying in and out by all kinds of strange creatures.
